“Could you at least pretend to comb your hair?” she asked. “It looks like you have a hedgehog nesting on your head.”

Yesterday, March 29th, Soozling over at Three Cats on a Sofa tagged me in a reading meme and I thought: “Hey, what a fantabulous idea! I like books and writing and stuff and this is another good way to get fingers swishing along the keyboard as the grey matter gets it’s creative groove on!”
So let’s share our thoughts on what books we’re reading!
The idea is quite simple, here are the rules:
- Take a picture of the books you are reading currently and add them to your post.
- Describe the books and if you are enjoying them
- For every book you are reading, you have to tag one person.
- Leave the person a comment letting them know you tagged them.
The bookshelf on my desk may looked crammed but it’s actually pretty sparse at the moment, a lot of my books are tucked away in boxes or on other folks’ bookshelves waiting to be read! I don’t like parting with books for good but a few weeks ago I carted 2 boxes of them to the charity shop. I don’t have the room and I’d rather they earned money for Cancer Research than sit gathering dust.
I’m currently reading 2 books and this is what I think of them:
This is quite an apt book at the moment. It’s based around many years after a zombie outbreak, nothing new for that specific genre for sure, but it is told in a fresh way. The main characters are bloggers and report on different aspects of the ongoing zombie problems, one reports the news and facts, another is all about action and sensationalism and the third writes fiction.
The plot centres around a Senator running for the Presidency and the bloggers are invited to follow his campaign. There’s a lot of information about blogging which can be a bit much to wade through, but it is spaced quite nicely with action. As the story progresses the suspense is building nicely, and there’s a decent mixture of mystery surrounding a plot to damage the Senator’s chances at becoming the next Big Cheese.
I’m about half way through and it’s just started to get very interesting. I’ve read a fair few zombie books and the reason why I like this one is because there are very few zombies in it! The story is more concerned with the world living with the constant threat of infection than actual decaying zedheads.
Long title huh? If you like pirates and swashbuckling fun then you need to read this book! It’s not a story but a concise dictionary/thesaurus/historical record of pirates and the language that surrounds this wonderfully colourful era.
I’ve been interested in pirates since I was a kid and dreamed of roaming the seas with the skull & bones flying in the sea breeze. After being so enthralled by Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew I searched for a book that could explain some of the terminology. The Pirate Primer has some wonderful entries like:
From the Insults section: “There is more life in a small, dead fish than in all your slow body!”
From the Retorts section: “You needn’t be so husky with a man.”
The book covers more than just the lingo, there are sections related to cultural terms, greetings & partings, where the sayings originated from, how and why certain words are used in the right or wrong way… It really is a great piratey book, argh so it be, lad, without neer a doubt!
New book for my research - SAS Survival Guide by John ‘Lofty’ Wiseman
I’ve just bought a tiny book all about the art of survival, mainly as research for my novel but partly out of curiosity. I’ve not read much, just skimmed it, but it seems pretty cool, but oh so tiny! You can just about see it in the photo, it’s the one laying on its side with the orange spine, to the left of my ace neon pink watch!
So there it is, my current reading list!
Now I shall hand the torch to over to the next person! I want to know what you are reading! So I nominate:
May you both do the “Let’s play a reading game” proud!
Are you prepared for the Big End? Do you have your “the end is nigh” sign ready? Do you have a G.O.O.D (Get Out Of Dodge) Bag packed and ready to go? Are you the type who prefers to run and scream or will you stand and fight to the bitter end? Can you protect your family/gang/McDonald’s/clan or X-Box?
Whatever your preferences for self preservation (or not) this handy guide will explain all you need to know to prepare for the up and coming apocalyptic nightmare. Fun topics include:
- How to tell if your boss is an alien.
- What to do when the aliens land.
- Jerry Springer: “I gave birth to Aliens!”
- Can you tell the difference between a Slumbering zombie and a Sprinting zombie?
- Will you know where to hide when the zombies come to play?
- Are you prepared for a terrorist attack?
- Face masks – good for what?
All this and much more awaits you in the all new!

I received the Versatile Blogger Award from PiP over at Piglet In Portugal!
I’d not heard of this before today and I feel very honoured! A big thank you to PiP for considering me, I’m all smiles and cheeriness now!
It’s been said on other blogs that the best way to accept the award is by listing 7 random facts about myself and by Paying it Forward, therefore I’ll honour the traditional, and give you all a good laugh, with my random facts and list some quality bloggers who also deserve this award for their blogging prowess and bringing smiles to my face and thoughts to my brain!
7 Random Facts about me.
- I love zombie films & books! I’m fascinated by the apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic genre.
- I’ve just started making a short animated film with plasticine figures, I’m taking baby steps and it’s very time consuming so I only manage a few seconds of footage here and there, but it’s ace fun!
- My favourite film is Stand By Me.
- I have an insane fear of wasps, it’s the buzzing. Why do they always head straight for my ear?
- I’d love to live by the sea, some place warm but not too warm. Nothing fancy, a small hut would suffice!
- I grow Cayenne Peppers in the kitchen even though I don’t like them! When a fresh batch is ready I pickle them and send them to my sister who adores those red devils!
- If I could trade places with any film character it would Tom Cruise in Cocktail for his idyllic beach bar. I love making cocktails!
